Well yesterday the Braves met with the free agent right hander. That meeting was set up before John Smoltz had set his sights on the Red Sox. Now Boras has the other team he needed to be involved to help drive up the Mets offer to Lowe. Or does he?
I mean If Derek Lowe really wants to play for the Braves will the Braves really step up and give him the money he wants. All along they were saying they did not want to give the commitment to a pitcher who is the age of Lowe. So what has changed? Yes Smotlz will not be with them and they need arms in there starting rotation. Will they give 4 years to Lowe? Also will Lowe want to pitch for a team whos older star Chipper Jones is wondering if he will be traded Mid Season.
If Lowe wants to be on a winner then going to the Braves is not his answer. I still think the Mets have Lowe right where they want him and as usual Scott Boras will wait them out.
