How Lowe Can We Go?

I don't think there is any Met fan out there more disappointed that not only did Lowe sign elsewhere, but he signed with the dreaded Braves. This was something I openly discussed and was concerned about in the early stages of the Free Agent Market. My concerns were/are that the Braves have always had the uncanny ablility to go into Stealth mode, sneak in under the radar, and obtain a player without every being discovered until after the deal was done (click here).

I can understand the Mets apprehension of the years and dollars Lowe did sign for (reportedly 4 years/$60M = $15M/year). That being said, there is a part of me that is wondering if Omar played this out exactly like he wanted. Reports have stated that Omar was more in favor with Ollie, not Derek. Did he purposely make an offer, and once the market changed, didn't up it, so that Ollie, his #1 choice, becomes more likely to sign with the Mets?

If Lowe went for that much money, Ollie will cost at least four years, problably $50 - $55 M.

I hope Omar knows what he is doing. If the Mets come out of this off season with Redding and Wolf as their starters, Flushing will make Bastille Day look like a walk in the park.

Don't disappoint us Omar.
