The Mets in 2008 as well all know blew there chances to make the playoffs. The Mets organization felt that with the amount of games that was lost in the late innings thought it was a good idea to bolster there bullpen. So they went after K Rod and J J Putz to close out the games in the 8th and 9th inning. The Mets worked to shorten the game and they did a terrific job.
Of course all you here now though is the Mets need to sign Manny Ramirez. Fans seem to think that the only way they will win is unless Manny is on the Mets. Met fans last night rallied at the SNY studios in regards to signing Manny. They talk about it in the many Met blogs and on the radio. The fans are so intense about Manny that the N Y Mets are on the defensive even blocking the ability to create a Manny Met #24 or # 99 Jersey at the Mets shop web site.
At the end of the 09 season if the Mets fail to make it to the playoff a lot of fans are going to blame the Mets for not signing Manny and that is ridiculous.
Yes the Mets could use another bat in the lineup but to me adding Manny would be overkill. The Mets are opening a new stadium this year and will fill that stadium regardless if the Mets sign Manny or not. I doubt there is one Met fan that will stop going to games if the Mets do not sign Mr Ramirez. The Mets have a business model and try to stick to it. The Pozi scheme that caught the Wilpon’s and other Mets executives are not the reason the Mets are not getting Manny. The Mets don’t think they need to spend 50-60M more to win a championship and I happen to agree.
