With Perez deal done Mets will pass on Manny and Abreu.

Now the Mets have solidified there starting rotation by brining back Oliver Perez the Mets can move on and gauge what they need to do next. Of course I think they need to add a power bat since they can be had on the cheap.

Joel Sherman , who broke the Perez signing, now says the Mets interest lies in a possible lefty set up man and maybe a cheapy right handed hitter that can come off the bench. His story you can read here

Of course this means Manny is out and they really are not interested in Abreu. They feel his defense is a liability and his cost his too prohibitive at this time. The Mets are still close to 25M under the luxury tax so a signing of Abreu who can hit lefty pitching I think would be a good move. If they don't like Abreu in the outfield do they think Murphy is any better? Plus moving into Citi Field no one has the leg up on how to play the walls and corners there.

The Mets are talking about spending 1 or 2M on a bench bat. To me spend the 7 or 8M it will cost to land Abreu so you don't kick yourself later in the season.
