John Franco who has spent his week in camp started saying his goodbyes. He has mentioned that down the line he would like to get into major league coaching. He was helping some of the pitchers including John Neise in regards to throwing changeups pitching in NY etc. We will see him on March 29th when he throws out the first pitch at the St Johns vs Georgetown game.
Livan Hernandez who pitched 2 innings on Saturday helped his cause with no runs and no hits and 2 walks. With Tim Redding out the Mets I am sure are leaning to Livan Hernandez. Next time I expect to see him pitching at least 3+ innings his next time out.
Angel Pagan was in camp on Sunday. He says that with the successful surgery on the bone spur in his right elbow he will be throwing in about 4 weeks.
John Maine who had a shaky first inning against the Marlins on Sunday, seemed to settle down and retired the last 9 batters he faced. He claimed that he was on his worst enemy in thinking too much and trying to pinpoint location instead of just throwing. Maine said in the first inning against the Marlins “If I miss a pitch, I’m thinking way too much about little things like my leg kick, tempo, arm slot, things like that," Dan Warthen wanted him to start throwing some curve balls this past start but Maine said he was not feeling too comfortable when the game started so he abandoned the idea. He also said talking to HOF Sandy Koufax was really cool . They spent a couple of minutes talking curveballs.
