Gary Sheffield admits not being ready for playing outfield

Those were his comments following a 20 min session with Razor Shines and Jerry Manuel before the Mets played the Reds last night. He went on to say that he has not picked up a glove at all during spring training. The man admits he his 20 lbs overweight. Well of course it did not take long for Sheff to open his mouth.

If the guy says he his not ready to play what will Jerry say about this. Well he has mentioned that he might start Sheffield in the Outfield on Sunday down in Florida against the Marlins. Sheff has mentioned about talking to Marlon Anderson about how he prepares for the 1 at bat as a pinch hitter. Marlon might not be the guy you should talk to since he got fooled on a 3-2 breaking pitch last night.

I am not a fan of Marlon anymore. He really has passed his time as a pinch hitting threat but at same time I think I would rather see him on the team then Sheffield just for the reason that Marlon seems to take his craft a bit more serious then Sheff does. Sheff I am sure is happy to be on a team especially the Mets but can he really help this team?

Sheff, who I never wanted at any point in his career, is out for two things, and two things only: Money and 500 HR's.

I just hate seeing someone like Nick Evans be demoted, and possibly Anderson be released for a 40 yr old, 20 lbs overweight, out of shape part time player.
