The Mets headed to Philly yesterday for a 3 game series and once there they have to deal with the General Managers comments to the fox crew about his team missing that tangible need that every team needs an "Edge". Well some of the Mets beg to differ which you can read about over at Newsday.com
Omar Stated "We have good guys, solid professionals," Minaya told Fox on Thursday. "There is a smile on David Wright's face, a smile on Jose Reyes' face. But there is not an edge to them. Some people see edge as leadership. Sometimes you need a little meanness to your game."Some people perceive leadership as meanness. I couldn't tell you that we have that type of guy. We have leaders. But every one's perception of leadership is different."
Of course politician David Wright had a conversation with the GM telling him we are good guys having fun and we do not need an edge. Of course David said that. because he has no "edge"
Edgeless Carlos Beltran went on to say "It doesn't matter if I'm a mean guy or not," It matters that I play the game of baseball and do my job."
Now it seems that the Mets feel that having an Edge means being mean.
I am sure Omar comments were taking out of context but the point is this. The team when they fall behind do not show that they can come back. If its an edge fine. If its meanness fine. What ever it is being a fan its obvious this team lacks something. Of course the players are clueless about the fact that New Yorkers have an "edge" to them. We would like our ball players to reflect some of that!
