Today in Mets history 25 years ago.Mets release Craig Swan

First of all is it really been that long since the Horrible Mets of the late 70's and early 80's were on WOR? before or after episodes of bowling for dollars? When the Mets had pitchers like Juan Berenger and Tom Hausman pitching for them

Well back in the late 70's and early 80's after the Mets traded Tom Seaver to the Reds so he could pitch a no hitter the Mets did not have a star pitcher. Well Craig Swan was the leader of that pitching staff at that point. In 1978 is era was a league low 2.43. He only won 9 games and lost 6 in 29 game starts!

We have talked about him in prior posts and to me he was always that guy was a decent pitcher on some really bad Met teams.

He did not get a chance to stick around to see his Mets get back to respectability since he was released in May of 1984 . At that point he had the longest tenure on the team . Ron Hodges and John Stearns were the only Mets still there from the late 70's teams. Swannie did pitch for the Angels that year.

Craig still does the Met autograph circuit and we thank him for pitching his heart out for those lousy teams! Can you guess the year of the topps card in the post?

Also who took his famed #27 once he was released?
