SNY will broadcast the press conference live this morning at 11am where Jason Bay will get his first introduction to the NY media. One question he will get I am sure is why did he take so long to sign and was it because he didn’t want to play here. I wonder if anyone will ask him to comment on Peter Gammons comments that he would rather play in Beruit.
The AP has some details on the 4 year contract with a 5th year option. Bay gets an $8.5 million signing bonus, payable upon approval by Major League Baseball, a $6.5 million salary this year and $16 million in each of the final three seasons. The outfielder’s option would become guaranteed if Bay has 600 plate appearances in 2013 or 500 plate appearances in both the 2012 and 2013 seasons.
He also receives a full no-trade provision, meaning the Mets can’t deal him without his approval.
