Swap those bad contracts Lowell for Castillo?

Now that the Red Sox have signed Beltre to a 1 year deal with a player option for 2011 they have no where to really play Mike Lowell.

It has been reported by Jerry Crasnick that the Mets and Red Sox were talking about swapping Lowell for Castillo. Later last night Rob Bradford of WEEI tweeted that the deal is not close.

Not sure why the Red Sox would want to take on a bad contract unless they think they can unload Castillo since the Sox are set at second base. Of course the Mets want to get rid of Castillo so they can sign Orlando Hudson since they have him in there sights for 2 years now.

Lowell could spell Wright the 3 games he doesn't play all year at 3rd and platoon with Murphy at 1st base. That would spell the end for a Delgado come back which the Mets still seem interested in bringing the 37 yr old back . Or it would put Murphy on the pine and Lowell and Delgado would split the playing time at first.
