Mets land Gary Matthews Jr in trade from Angels

Looks like the Mets do not trust the health of Angel Pagan since they just landed Gary Matthews Jr from the Angels, The Mets are sending Brian Stokes and will get the Angels to pony up 21M of the 23M of the remaining Matthews contract. The Mets will use him as a backup so they have a fall back if Pagan goes down or if Beltran takes a long time in his recovery. Matthews Jr hit only .250 last year but did lead the Angels in hitting with man on base hitting over .300 . He played for the Mets in 2002 briefly.

I don’t like the fact that Stokes is the one that was jettisoned. He had a good fastball and just about a rubber arm.
