It has been reported over the last few days that the Mets have shown some interest in veteran left-handed relief pitcher Joe Beimel.
The Mets are reported to have offered Beimel a contract of $1M plus incentives. It is thought that Beimel is looking for what he made last year with Washington and Colorado, which was around $2M.
Beimel, 33 in April, would most likely wind up as a lefty set-up man for Francisco Rodriguez, if signed by the Mets.
Beimel could be a nice additon for the right price. If it's for only $1M plus incentives, it will be worth the risk. It might also provide a nice competition between he and newly acquired Kiko Calero.
