Tests Confirm Over-Active Thyroid For Reyes

The Mets received news that they were expecting: Jose Reyes has an over-active thyroid.

According to the club, Reyes will remain in New York for further tests, which results are not expected until Thursday.

It is expected that Reyes' condition shouldn't affect his baseball ability. My one concern that if he is medicated for this condition, which is expected, will it affect his enthusiasm and "spark plug" demeanor on the field?

It's time for Mets fans and the media to step back from the 2010 cliff many appear ready to jump off. Jose will be fine. An over-active thyroid is common and relatively easily treated. Although he might be sidelined for a short period of time, he will be back with the Mets this year, hopefully batting lead-off.

Though many take solace is slamming Reyes, the Mets can't win without him. Angel Pagan is a very poor replacement for the Mets lead-off man. Jose might very well be the best lead-off hitter in the game today. He has decent power, extra base power and speed, can steal a base with the best of them, his OBP increases each year, and his batting average is a respectable .285 (or so). His defense is underrated. He has a powerful arm and good range. The Mets go as Jose goes.

Let's relax a little Mets fans. It is only the early stages of Spring Training, and Jose will be back. The Mets will be much improved with him at the top of their order, setting the table for Nuke LaLoosh, Bay, Francoeur and Beltran.
