Bad Mechanics aside Santana squeezes out a win

He might not have that same dominating changeup but Santana proved that he could still find a way to win even with ok stuff as the Mets beat the hapless Indians 7-6.

Santana has to be on point earlier in May where if he gave up more then 1 run he was stuck since the Mets were not hitting. For the 2nd game in a row he was given a lead but coughed it up early. Then found a happy medium and stopped the bleeding by retiring the Indians 3 innings in a row with only 1 hit as the Mets had given him back the lead 6-4. He still has not been in strike out mode. In his last 3 starts he has struck out only 5 while walking 11.

Santana seem to wrestle with his motion has he changed where he kept his arms in front of him as he started his wind up. Pitching coach Dan Warthen mentioned "felt the arm was in the right slot, but we didn't feel that he was loading the same way that he has in the past."

As per the
Daily News Santana has developed a bad habit of rotating his midsection too early in his windup, causing his arm to lag. That has made his fastball cut out of the strike zone, and affected the sharpness of his changeup. Before the game, Warthen said that he saw evidence of improvement in Santana's most recent bullpen session.

Kudos to K Rod to giving us drama by giving up a 2 run jack to former Yankee Shelly Duncan in the ninth to make it 7-6.
