Mets get gem in nite cap from Jon Niese

Niese did something last night that no other Met pitcher has done so far this year. He went 9 innings for a complete game 3-0 victory in the nite game of the DH yesterday. What even made it more incredible that it was a 1 hit gem where he walked no body. He retired the last 21 batters of the night. If manager Jerry did not let Niese go out there for the 9th being at a scant 99 pitches there would have been a mutiny.

Niese was able to command his curveball for strikes that would either drop right into the zone for a strike or right under the Padres bat for a swinging strike. No matter what he trhew last night most Padre batters saw a first pitch strike.

Niese gave up 1 hit a double early in the contest and that was it. He was pretty amazing in his 108 pitch effort as the Mets scored early with hits by Reyes, Carter and Davis. Wright also got a Rbi with a RBI ground out. Niese has given up 1 run since his DL stint.

Santana was not the usual Santana in the first game getting tagged for 4 runs as the Mets lost 4-2.

Next stop Baltimore who just lost 2 out of 3 to the Yankees. Met face there best pitcher tonight in Guthrie and might be someone the Mets could be interested in trading for as the season goes on.
