Murphy Ready To Return To Action

Trivia question - It's real difficult, so make sure you consider your answer before responding...

Who was the Mets starting LF last year before being re-located to 1B after spending the 2008 AFL at 2B?

Well folks, the Daniel Murphy Merry-Go-Round has started again. Murphy is expected to start his rehab with AAA Buffalo at second base tomorrow.

As Adam Rubin reports, Murphy will also be given shots (oh no!) in LF and 1B.

Murphy, who was dubbed the Mets starting LF in 2009 before moving to 1B, was also dubbed the Mets starting 1B this spring, until he injured his knee in a run down drill.

Once again, the Mets are messing with a good thing. Not that Murphy will replace Davis at 1B, but he can spell Davis on given days. Granted this flies in the face of Jerry's text book thinking of Righty Lefty/Lefty Righty match-ups, but the Daniel Murphy LF experiment has concluded, and it was a miserable failure. He did a respectable job at 1B, so why mess with it? From all I read about his AFL tenure at 2B, it did not come with high praises.

I would love to see Murphy find a position where he can play regularly. He brings a good attitude and he is a monster when it comes to practicing. He works hard, and it would be real nice to see a Mets home grown player make good. I just don't see LF as that position. Maybe at 2B, but Castillo, who might be DL'd, has played well, and I can't see Murphy starting over him.

Murphy's role with the Mets will most likely be as a reserve, a la Fernando Tatis and Alex Cora.

Best of luck to Murph and his rehabbing.
