Last year the Tigers didn’t feel that Gary Sheffield could help the Tigers and they wanted to get younger. So they dumped Sheff and his 14M dollar contract. The mets signed him for a song and a dance last year has he hit his 500 home run with the Mets but for the most part was 1 step away from a nagging injury.
The other day the Tigers parted ways with Lefty Dontrelle Willis and his 12M contract and shipped him off to the Diamond Back and will pay most of whats left of his 12M salary in a deal that netted the Tigers a live body. The D Backs will be on the hook for the pro rated part of the 400K minimum salary.
So over the last year the Tigers have dumped 26M in salary on 2 mistakes and moved on. Hey Omar you see this? Do you think you have a player that can fit this bill? Hmmm huh?
Ok so the Mets owe Mr Genius Ollie Perez close to 20M of what is left of his 3 year 36M salary that he basically robbed from the Mets. Of course Ollie in infinite wisdom thinks that he cant help himself down in Triple AAA since the caliber of players are not up to what he needs to pitch against and he can do what he needs to do as a lump in the Mets bullpen. Hey Ollie ..don't think it could only hurt the ball club.
Ollie should go down to Triple AAA to either find his fastball or become a different type pitcher. The Mets want to protect there investment a little while longer ala Steve Trachsel from a couple of years ago. I agree with at least the attempt. If wonder boy Ollie keeps saying no then you need to dump the guy and move on. Yes you worry that the Lefty might move on and no hit you someday. Take the chance. Dombrowski did.

I agree but they are prolly trying to not piss off Scott Boras so they can get some of his other clients in the future without more difficulty then he already causes.
while I personally want him to go, I understand why they keep him...$. and they don't want to get bit in the a$$ if he gets picked up by another team. he can still hit yhe 90's on the gun, so I think he is just a COMPLETE head case.
Who cares. Get rid of him, he is taking up space on the bench. The Mets Players have lost respect for him and he will never be any good in New York. Maybe the Mets will get lucky and he will sign with an American League team.
