Who has more confidence then Mike Pelfrey: Mets win 4-2

It is easy to say that Santana due to his past is the Mets ace but Mike Pelfrey might think different these days. The Mets starter went 8 innings and a 110 pitches in the Mets 4-2 win early this morning .

Big Pelfrey is 8-1 now and the Mets are 6-0 when he pitches after a loss. As Gary Cohen said last night Pelfrey is the definition of a stopper. He motored through the Padres line up, keeping all the Padres off balance except for the Padres catcher Hundley who had 3 of the padres 4 hits.Pelfrey only had 1 inning where he seem to labor which was the 6th inning.

Pelfrey was able to throw a ton of first pitch strikes as he struck out 8 which is the most he has struck out in a game this year. He gave 1 run on 4 hits and 2 walks. He walked .180 hitting Tony Gwynn Jr who scored in the 6th. That was the only inning that Big Pelf had a little trouble with the strike zone and the Padres seem to be very patient in that inning.

Manager Jerry would have left Pelfrey in when it came to the 9th with K Rod of course giving the Mets a scare giving up a run and having the winning run at the plate. Manager Jerry wanted to give his closer some work and get a save but Pelfrey really could have had a complete game.

Nuke (DW)had 2 rbi's. One on his 9th home run and Ike Davis hit a shot, a 2-run shot to straight away center with Castillo on base.
