Reyes To Play Wednesday? Jerry Not Happy With Pelfrey's Progression.

Jose Reyes is planning on returning to the Mets lineup in Wednesday's finale against the Nationals in Washington, DC.

Adam Rubin reports that Jerry Manuel said this about Reyes playing Wednesday:

"I think he wants to try to play the day game. He felt OK. He wants to swing again tomorrow and try to go the following day.”

We've heard time and time again that players are day-to-day. Remember Jason Bay? Jose Reyes earlier this year? Jose Reyes recently? Johan Santana? Let's just hope for the best, and hopefully we
'll see Jose and his #7 Jersey on the field Wednesday.

In other fun today, it was believed that Mets starting victim, Mike Pelfrey, gave manager Jerry Manuel the cold shoulder when he was removed from the mound with two outs in the 4th inning.

As scribed by
Rubin, Pelfrey said he wasn't mad at Manuel:

___________________________________________________

“I’m just mad at myself. I always wait for the bullpen guy to come in and I always hand him the ball. I knew he was coming to take me out. He didn’t need to say anything to me. At that time I was pissed. I didn’t really need to hear anything. I was just staring off and thinking in my head about what happened. It’s frustrating.”

More interestingly, Mets manager Jerry Manuel had this to say about Big Pelf:

____________________________________________________

“I just see a guy that kind of loses confidence. The presence on the mound changes a little bit to me. Dan [Warthen] has gone out and talked to him about that. … What are we talking -- fourth year? Fourth year you expect to be heading into that point where you say, ‘Boom, this is who you are. This is what we’re going to get.’ And we’re still fighting some different things. I think that part is probably what’s the most frustrating. You know the tools are there in the shed in which to work with. You just got to get them in the right places, and we haven’t been able to get that.” ____________________________________________________

Manuel is right, and it is nice, although much too late, to see him calling a player to task. For too long it's been everything is wonderful, blah, blah, blah. Now Jerry finally steps forward and challenges his pitcher. That is good,
but too much, too little, too late.

Consider yourself verbally smacked down Pelf!
