Dwight Gooden & Charlie Sheen: Cashing In On Addiction

It was reported yesterday that Dwight Gooden, he of the well noted 15 minutes of sobriety, will be on VH-1's Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew.

Dwight Gooden, who had the greatest pitched season I have ever witnessed, is an overdose waiting to happen. He is not only a multiple offender of drug related arrests and disturbances, but has fallen off the sobriety wagon so many times that he is in risk of having a permanent concussion.

Similarly, Charlie Sheen appears to be cashing in, or trying to cash in on his new found revelation that he is an addict who knows how to handle his drugs and booze.

You can't turn on the TV set without seeing yet another interview of Charlie Sheen shooting his mouth off about his new found catharsis of not needing to be sober, and his issues with the producers of his hit TV show, Two And A Half Men.

Although Sheen has been suspended from his hit show, and the producers have decided to shut down the show for this season, he feels it's important to spew his insanity about his life and career.

Gooden, on the other hand, doesn't hit the talk show junket as much, but is at the same level as Sheen in failed sobriety and failed marriages.

For VH-1 who feel they must exploit the rich and spoiled addicts for ratings, here is a new idea:

Overdose For Cash. The first episode will pit Gooden, 46, against Sheen (45). Set the two "stars" up in a "crib" where they can drink, drug, and frolic all they want. The first one to OD wins. The prize? A free tour of their local Meth Lab. The first contestant to die will win $1 M.

How far have we sunk where we have to promote and exploit any person, let alone a celebrity's addiction?
Dwight Gooden was bound for the Hall Of Fame until the coke and booze side-tracked him. It has derailed him ever since.

The same can be said for Sheen. The only difference is that with Sheen, he is on top of the world at 45, not as a 19 year old.

Both men do not realize that they are out of control, and in Gooden's case, going on TV with Dr. Drew will be another outlet to fail, not to succeed.

Doc is a train wreck with no entertainment value at all. Charlie Sheen, Lindsay Lohan, who cares, not like either had any particular talent to lose. Doc is the one that's sad.
