Jason Bay looking to hit the ground running

We all know that Bay had a power outage in 2010 before he met the Dodger Stadium bullpen fence last summer. I mean 6 homers. Alot has been written about how Citi can mess you up the first year as well as being in NY's spotlight/media coverage. Of course if you break it down it could just come down to getting the read of the pitch that is being thrown and being balanced at the plate.Doesn't matter what the issue was Bay is working on making sure it doesn't happen again.

The Mets Left fielder according to the Wall Street Journal really went to work this off season. He spent time with his former hitting coach with the Pirates Don Long. Mets new hitting coach Dave Hudgens also went to work in the off season. He watched everyone of Bay's at bats.  The one thing they both agreed on is that Bay had too much movement in his  swing and needed to simplify. Also that he swung at pitches out of the strike zone at an alarming rate. Bay, who had the worst slugging percentage of his career at .402 swung at 27% of pitched out of the strike zone.

With Bay and Hudgens working on his timing and trying to get Bay not just to pull the ball it will give him a better sense of balance according to Hudgens. Of course with Citi Field dimensions it might not help Bay with his home run bat but first things first. Bay needs to regain the form he had in 2009 and be someone the pitchers are concerned with when he comes up. Not another either strike out or singles hitter he was in 2010.
