Davis On DL, KMart Recalled (Until He's Injured): Mets Lineup Vs Rockies - May 12, 2011

As my esteemed colleague just reported, the Mets foolishly recalled Fernando Martinez to replace injured Ike Davis.

I was in contact with Adam Rubin - asking him why the Mets didn't recall Nick Evans who plays 1B, 3B, and LF. Evans is not only better than the overrated Martinez, he is more versatile, and will fit the Mets needs better.

Rubin told me: ...Also, F-Mart is on 40-man roster. Nick Evans is not. Young could go to 60-day DL to clear room, but Nick would need to go thru waivers after...

Continuing, Rubin stated: My suspicion is next time Nick Evans goes thru waivers as Met would be his last. If unclaimed, why would he stay? He sees he's not in plans.

How FMart will help this team is beyond me. He is the modern day Alex Escobar, and the Mets need to realize this and cut their losses.

The Mets will play their make-up game for yesterday's rainout at 3:10 this afternoon.
