Niese Nixes Nats
Jon Niese was "On" last night as he blanked the Nats when Mother Nature didn't cooperate very well. The Mets lefty shut out the hapless Nats (20-22) for 7 rain soaked innings, en route to the Mets 3-0 victory. It was the Mets first shut-out win this year.
Niese pitched out of trouble in the seventh inning, where the Nats loaded the bases with two outs. Niese got Roger Bernadina to end the inning on a ground out to Murphy at first.
Jason Bay, who again was awful at the plate, knocked in the first Mets run with a sac fly which scored Reyes from third in the first inning.
The Red Hot Red Head, Justin Turner, did an unheard of thing...he got a key hit with two outs. The rookie infielder knocked in two runs with two outs in the sixth inning.
Jose Reyes had a solid night going 3-4 and scoring twice.
