On a cold morning in the east the Mets have some decisions to make today. They need to offer contracts to about 8 players today or non tender them.
According to the NY Post the Mets will most likely not offer contracts to Tim Redding and Outfielder Jeremy Reed. Reed to me is useless especially if they consider they have a clone in Cory Sullivan. Reed was part of the trade that send Endy Chavez to Seattle last winter. Reed really didn't do anything that would make you want him back. He has no power and when given a chance to play for a couple of games last summer he faltered.
Tim Redding was a nice surprise at the end of the season last year. The Mets do have Nelson Figueroa and maybe a healthy Fernando Nieve that can do the work of Redding if they non tender him.
In other Metsie news a contract offer to Bengie Molina could have a clause that activates a 3rd year. Seems with all catchers roughly getting 2 years that the Mets would be stuck giving Molina a triggered 3 yr deal.
A little where are they now......Remember Vance Wilson? He signed a deal with the Royals minor league system . The 37 year old had surgery and is almost fully recovered and could make the jump back to the Major Leagues sometime in 2010.
