David Wright needs a day off...

I love that David Wright is a stand-up guy, who, along with Billy Wagner, is available for the media, daily, through good times and bad. I respect his work ethic, that he is always in the lineup. However, this season, Wright, through attrition, has become the last player to play every inning, this season.

Please Willie, give Wright a day off to rest, mentally and physically, to re-charge the batteries. In 258 at-bats, Wright has a .275 avg., .371 obp, .492 slg., with 18 doubles, a triple, 12 HR's, 48 RBI's, and 8 stolen bases, in 12 attempts. His numbers are among the best on the Mets, but, a little below his usual excellence. He's probably taking on too much responsibility, on the field, and with the media, and is quietly a leader by example for the Mets, showing by work ethic, that he is reliable, and always there for his teammates. With that mind set, I do not expect him to ask Willie for a day off.

IS WRIGHT TIRED ??? Since June 1st...he has 11 hits in 47 at-bats, a .234 average, a .283 obp, and a .319 slg. All of these are worse than his season stats, which are below his career expectations.

Part of a manager's responsibility is to know his players well enough to gauge when they need a day off. Willie needs to sacrifice a game, and rest Wright for a full game, and tell Wright to just relax and watch for a full game (no pinch hitting, or defensive replacement), to unwind and recharge the batteries.

The Mets' next off day is Thursday, June 19th. If Willie feels he can wait that long, give Wright the day off on Wednesday the 18th, or, Friday the 20th, so Wright has 48 hours to rest, mentally and physically.

My fear is that Willie & Omar, knowing their jobs are on the line, may be making moves to protect their jobs, at the detriment of the team, such as waiting way too long to put Ryan Church onto the disabled list, because he's one of their best players, and they were hoping that Church even playing occasionally would help them win occasional games, and retain their jobs. Is the same reasoning behind why Alou has not been placed onto the disabled list ? Is the same reasoning why Wright has played every inning this season ?

C'mon Willie, give Wright a day off. Pick one: the 18th or the 20th.
