I'm watching Daily News Live at 5:00 P.M. EST yesterday, and during the show, Chris Cotter is in mid-sentence, talking to Beningo, and their two guests, when his face changes expression (it looked like he had just drank curdled milk), he turns to Beningo, and says that the show's producer is interrupting, with breaking news. Kevin Burkhardt called SNY's studio to report that Moises Alou is declaring his own health as 50/50, and that he hopes to have an M.R.I. done today (Wednesday) on his apparently healed calf (according to Alou, one day prior, which is why he was activated from the disabled list).
Joe Beningo's face drops into the desk, he starts pounding it with his fist, and makes noises that sound like a combination of a little schoolgirl cackling, and a grown man having a nervous breakdown, and crying. I LOVE JOE BENINGO !!! I respect, so much, the obvious passion he has for the Mets, Jets & Knicks. He lives and dies on every breaking bit of news, every play during a game, wearing his emotions on his sleeves, living and dying, on a daily basis, with his passion for these teams.
The beauty of live T.V. is the look on Cotter's face, and seeing him, for a split second decide that he's the only one in that room who has been just told news that is potentially, comedy gold. He decides to turn to Beningo, guaranteed to have the best reaction, and let's him have it. Beningo's reaction was priceless ! Exactly what any die-hard Met fan felt when hearing it, which is what I love about Beningo. He doesn't have an off switch on his emotions, or his rants. He's honest, and he shares whatever raw emotions he has. Beningo didn't know whether to laugh or cry, which is how Mets fans felt. Beningo is like a simmering volcano, just waiting to erupt. Daily News Live originally airs at 5:00 P.M., and is always replayed later that evening, and in the wee hours of the morning. Tape this show and watch it. It's comedy gold, thanks to Joe Beningo !
