The trade deadline has come and gone, and Mets fans, like those who go on a bender, need to wake up, shake-off the hangover, and attack the day.
The Mets were, as we all know, unable to land a corner OF, a starting pitcher, or a reliever by Thursday's trade deadline. From all reports, it wasn't from a lack of effort from our fearless GM.
The positives? The Mets are still only one game behind the NL East leading Cheesesteaks, and their minor league system is still in tact, without having to give up their best prospects for late season rentals.
Yes, the hangover might hurt now, but in the long run, the Mets might be better off. When we see F-Mart and Niese and Kunz at Shea, or Citi Field, in the not-too-distant future, we might very well be glad that Omar refused to trade these young talented players.
