Ford C. Frick Finalists

Once again Ralph Kiner was over-looked for enshrinement in the National Baseball Hall of Fame museum as an announcer. Kiner, who was enshrined in the Hall Of Fame as a player in 1975, was on the ballot due to his long announcing career with the Mets. Unfortunately, he didn’t make the cut.

This years 10 finalists are:

Joe Nuxhall – Cincinnati Reds
Jacques Doucet – Montreal Expos
Tom Cheek – Toronto Blue Jays
Dizzy Dean – St. Louis Cardinals and Browns
Tony Kubek – Game of the Week, Toronto Blue Jays, NY Yankees
Ken Coleman - Cleveland Indians, Chicago White Sox, Boston Red Sox
Lanny Frattare -Pittsburgh Pirates
Dave Van Horne - Montreal Expos, Florida Marlins
Billy Berroa - New York Mets - Spanish radio and TV announcer
Graham McNamee - Westinghouse, NBC who called 12 World Series beginning in 1923.

I was really hoping that Kiner would have had the opportunity to join colleagues Bob Murphy and Lindsay Nelson in the Hall. You can view my earlier post,
Kiners Time, which first listed possible Met inductees.

The winner will be announced on Dec. 9 at the Winter Meetings in Las Vegas and will receive the award during the induction ceremony on July 26, 2009, at the Clark Sports Center in Cooperstown, N.Y.

he should be right up there for this award. Not sure what is holding him back. There is no one like Ralphie and Always love his story telling about the old days.
