Mets might need a closer but K-Rod not the Answer

Everyone has an opinion on who the Mets should try to obtain in the off season to take over as closer since Billy Wagner will not be back in 2009. Well if you have been watching the playoffs hopefully most met fans feelings about Francisco Rodriguez "K-Rod" have changed.

We don't need to pay him 15 million so that he can load up the bases every night. Yes he did get out of the jam against the Red Sox but if you ask me he was pretty lucky. Yes it was a playoff game but playing in New York is like that almost every night. Yes he did convert 62 saves last year. He also blew the most saves of his career.

Also if you look at his strikeouts for the last couple of years, every year it has gone down.

In 04 he had 123k 05 he had 91, 06 he had 98 07 he had 90 and this year he had 77

He does not seem confident in his fastball after the first pitch. if u look at his stats his Whip has gone up every year. The one thing I will give him is that he does not usually allow home runs.

No doubt the kid has been a great stopper but he should not be on the Mets next year. They don't need to sign him to 4 years so they get 1 good year out of him and the rest is mediocre.
