Gary Carter has been hired as manager of the Long Island Ducks. As reported by JOHN JEANSONNE in today's Newsday, Carter is, "...very excited to be back in New York, and to have the opportunity to manage a first-class organization like this one. I'm ready to go."
As we all remember, Carter had openly campaigned for the Mets managing position while both Art Howe and Willie Randolph were still employed. With Carter being this close to Shea, will he feel, in his own deluded mind, that he is that much closer to attaining the Mets managing position?
Carter, now 54, has had a respectable track record managing in the minor leagues. He managed the Orange County (Calif.) Flyers to the championship of the Golden Baseball League this season, the second consecutive year Carter guided a minor league team to a championship, following a Florida State League title for the Mets' St. Lucie farm team in 2007.
In a statement from Frank Boulton, principal owner of the Ducks: "As we head into our 10th anniversary season, we are excited to have Gary on board to lead our team. He has had great success in baseball both as a player and a manager, and we are confident he will help bring an Atlantic League championship back to Long Island."
Good luck Frank...
