Randy Wolf and Russ Springer 2 not offered salary Arbitration

If the Mets are looking for pitching at economy prices there are two players the Mets might consider. Starter Randy Wolf and reliever Russ Springer.

Randy Wolf spent 2008 with the Padres and the Astros. He had a 12 and 12 record with a era just over 4.00 . He was an innings eater recording almost pitching 2oo innings last year. The lefty is 32 years old and should be able to be obtained for cheap in when it comes to what the Mets might offer Oliver Perez. Since the Astros declined arbitration the Mets would not have to give up a pick to obtain him.

Russ Springer was not offered arbitration by the Cardinals. Being he was a type A free agent the Cardinals will not get any first round picks if he is signed by another team. What works against Springer is his age. He just turned 40. He did pitch in 70 games for the Cards in 08 and had a 2.32 era with only allowing 39 hits in 50 innings. He struck out 45 and walked 18

2 players the Mets could have on the 09 team relatively cheap and probably do just as well as any 5th starter the Mets could sign or reliever they already have
