Pedro A Marlin?

As reported by Enrique Rojas - ESPN Deportes Pedro Martinez is in the beginning stages of speaking with the Florida Marlins about pitching for them this season.

Pedro owns a home in Miami. Nothing is noted about Pedro's interest. Publicly he has said he wants to win a World Series with the Mets. Thankfully, thus far, the Mets have been luke-warm towards bringing Pedro back.

Pedro had a poor 2008 season, and it can't be expected that at 37 he will be any better in 2009. When you look back at the four years Pedro spent with the Mets (2005 – 2008), it was not what most expected, except for maybe the Boston Red Sox. Pedro is reported to have been the reason the Mets were able to sign Carlos Beltran and Fernando Martinez.

Pedro was the kind of character this team needed. He had a respectable 2005 (15-8 2.82 ERA 0.949 WHIP), but in 2006 (9-8 4.48 ERA 1.108 WHIP) when the Mets needed him, he was injured, and didn't appear in the play-offs. From 2006 through the conclusion of 2008, Pedro appeared in only 48 games. It can't be expected that he will be any better in 2009.

According to Anthony McCaron - NY Daily News - the Marlins aren't interested in Pedro. Could this be the beginning of the return of Pedro? Let's hope not. Omar, stay away from the Pedro Kool-Aid!
