Kevin Towers, GM of the San Diego Padres, has signed former Met Duaner Sanchez to a Minor League deal.
Sanchez, 29, was released by the Mets on March 10th after showing a decreased fastball, around 87 MPH, and suspected poor work habits. The Mets weren't convinced Sanchez would regain the form and success he had prior to his shoulder injury in 2007.
On Sanchez Towers remarked that he believes that he has complimentary pitches that could make him “the late-inning reliever the team is looking for, possibly the eighth-inning specialist to set up former Mets teammate Heath Bell.”
Sanchez on his future, "I know I have it. I've got no problem with that. I just don't want to come out of the chute throwing hard. That's not me. I want to make sure that when I reach back, I know I have it there."
