Dwight Gooden On WFAN

This morning former Mets pitching Ace, Dwight Gooden, was a guest on the Boomer & Carton program on WFAN.

Some interesting points to note:

  • Gooden on his issues with addiction: he said he not only cheated himself and the Mets, but the fans of NY and his family. He said that this experience has helped him in life, and he looks forward to helping others in making proper choices, and not to fall into the traps he did.

  • Gooden said he didn't do drugs while in NY until 1994. He used drugs when he was home in Tampa, and was just being one of the boys. It started out with beer, went to hard alcohol, marijuana, to harder drugs. It escalated to the point of addiction.

  • Gooden said he never pitched while drunk or on drugs.

  • Gooden on his no-hitter while pitching for the Yankees: his father was having open-heart surgery, and pitching the no-hitter was an extra special gift due to the serious surgery his father was undergoing.

  • Game 6 1986 World Series: Gooden along with many teammates was in the clubhouse. Once the game was tied, he got dressed and went into the dugout. Once the Mets won game 6, he said there was no doubt we (the Mets) were going to win game 7.

  • Dwight Gooden is a grandfather. He is only 44.

I'd love to see Doc be a guest in the SNY booth, or on the pregame show with Darryl. it was real interesting watching him interact with his former teammates during Shea's closing ceremony.
