Luckily enough Mr Rose was able to emcee the festivitites before the game and call the Mets first game at Citi Field. In an article over at Newsday he speaks about how he had the opportunity to go to the first Met game at Shea Stadium on 1964 but was sick. To me just the fact he went the first year is pretty cool in my book.
Took me until 1974 to make it to my first game at Shea and I have seen the new park twice already. I am sure Howie is happy with his new digs and can concentrate on calling Met games since the Islander season closed on Sunday. Of course he had to call that game so he missed out on the Santana pitching duel.
Shea and Citi are just impossible to compare. There are memories though of Shea that will never be forgotten. I am sure some of the Met players would like to forget last nights game.
