Do the Mets have talent? YES. Will they have a winning record at season’s end? I believe so. Do the 2009 Mets have an exorbitant amount of injuries? YES. What does this team need? It needs a new medical staff that can tend to everyone on this team, excluding only Johan Santana and Francisco Rodriguez.
They need a heart. Just like the Tin Man in The Wizard Of Oz, this team needs heart. We can complain about the injuries, we can complain about slumps, hey, what team doesn’t have slumps? But, the big thing is, when the Mets play the Phillies, are the Phillies that much better? I don’t think so. The big difference between the two teams is, when the Phillies are down, they know they will come back. When the Mets are down, they stay down.

The Phillies neither get worried nor bothered when they are down a few runs. They know they will come back and win.
When the Mets get down…is there anyone out there that has confidence that this team has the onions to come back? I hate to admit, but I don’t. Injuries aside, this team needs a heart transplant. It wasn’t injuries that did them in in 2006, 2007, or 2008. It was lack of heart, and expecting teams to roll over and play dead, because we’re the Big Bad Mets.
The Phillies know they’re in the Mets heads. They relish that role.
It’s time for a gut check. Whaddya say Wright? Castillo? Murphy? Church? Is it time for a road trip to Oz?
