In an article in today's Newsday, the needs for the Mets in 2010 is not an easy solution, but one thing that rings clear is the emergence of Omar Minayas assistant, John Ricco.
After the Bernazard debacle, the Mets brass are looking to distribute more duties to Ricco, thus keeping Minaya in the background to do the behind the scenes duties. This will keep the heat off Minaya, and give the Mets a better opportunity to evaluate the situation.
Ricco will be traveling with the Mets more frequently as the season winds down, where the upper management gives Ricco a more prominent role. They believe that Ricco, a good "numbers cruncher," is also an adept handler of media, which Minaya has never been.
There is no immediate plan to remove Minaya, at this point, due to his three year contract that kicks in at season's end, but it must not be understated that the Wilpon's are impressed with their rising star.
