Gazoo/Dark Helmet, We Hardly Knew Ya

Yesterday David Wright abandoned his “well received" Rawlings S100 Batting Helmet.

Wright is saying that the helmet, although proven to be safer, being able to withstand a pitch thrown at 100MPH from two feet, was uncomfortable, and that he felt it didn’t fit well.

"It's just not comfortable. It's just the last thing I need to be worrying about in the box is trying to shove it on my head.", said Wright.

Continuing, "I wanted to go back to the old one. I'll just wait to see if there's going to be any adjustments made."

Wright took a lot of ribbing from not only fans and the media, but from teammates also. There was a picture of Gazoo and the Rawlings logo posted above his locker.

Teammate Jeff Francoeur, who has become quite close to Wright since arriving from Atlanta, said, "I think David was upfront and honest with them about how he felt about it. Hopefully, they'll come out with something better. You're already worried about trying to hit 95 [mph fastballs]. Now if you're worried about what to try to do with your head, it just doesn't work."

Personally, I thought it was great. The Mets and their fans have had to endure a difficult miserable season, and Wrights helmet, was a great distraction, even though it came at Wright’s expense.
