Mets Just Can't "Catch" A Break

We've all heard the wonderful news today that the Phillies are on the verge of obtaining Roy Halladay, the BoSox signed John Lackey, and the Mets signing Kelvim Escobar to a minor league deal.

I'm hearing through the grapevine that Jason Bay is to give his answer to the Mets offer by weeks end. Can hardly wait to hear what his answer is. Chances of him signing with Boston might be a far stretch since the BoSox reached an agreement with former Met and fan favorite Mike Cameron.

Former Mets back up catcher extraordinaire, Ramon Castro has signed a deal with the Toronto Blue Jays, while Bengie Molina wants at least a three year deal. Omar, take a line from Nancy Reagan...Just Say No!
Omar and the Mets don't need another Lusi Castillo contract with Molina. As my esteemed colleague and I have stated numerous times, the Mets would be better served putting together a deal for recently signed catcher Dioner Navarro (Tampa Bay). That deal would make much more sense that Molina.

Days like this have made being a Mets fan excruciating. Is Omar asleep at the wheel? Does he not have the budget to go after big time free agents? Or is he once again over-estimating the Met minor league system?
If they can land Bay, that will be nice, but after watching teams like the Phillies and Mariners make their clubs significantly better, and the Mets having nothing to show thus far, it's a bit disconcerting.

Now there aren't any big name free agents left. No, I don't look at Holliday as being a big name. I would prefer Bay, but plugging in Escobar over Lackey is not something that is going to make me or other Met fans rush to buy season tickets.
