Now is not the time for Ike Davis.

Everyone and there brother wants to bring up Ike Davis like he is some savior of some sort; like he will bring life back to the masses. That is sad. The Mets have spent an excess of 130M for the present team and their record stands at 2-6 and people want changes and of course that item we so covet, a winning streak! Well that’s expected with, of course, the year the Mets had in 2009 so patience is not something fans have at this point.

Well so if Davis comes up and he has a start like F-Mart are all the fans going to crucify him? Or lay off him and then say oh I was one of the few that said I never wanted him up here yet.

The Mets need to figure this out for themselves and bring Davis up when the world will not be on his shoulders. I would rather them wait until Beltran is at least back and only if Murphy is not hitting. Then Davis can be just a guy on the team instead of out front since the rest of the team has not played as expected.

In our constant Met dialogue, my esteemed colleague Metsfan’73 remembers the Mets rushing Gregg Jefferies and that didn’t work out so well for the pool swinging former Met.

Of course his defense will be better than Jacobs and the awful Tatis, who needs to stay on the left side of the diamond.

The issue I also see is that Davis has no experience hitting lefties if he will be an every day 1st baseman.

Per Adam Rubin, after Davis was promoted to Double-A Binghamton, the lefty-hitting, lefty-throwing Davis hit .331 against right-handed pitching and .268 against southpaws. His split was more pronounced early last season at Class A St. Lucie. Davis hit .323 against right-handers and .197 against southpaws in the Florida State League.

So far this season in Triple-A, Davis has had only six plate appearances against southpaws, and has a double and walk.“That was one of the things we’re focusing on -- making sure he plays against lefties,” Mets minor league field coordinator Terry Collins said.

Let him play against lefties in Buffalo where if he has a 0-4 day he doesn’t have to deal with the pressure of New York. Leave that to “Nuke” (Wright), Bay and Frenchie. If the Mets need Davis to bring life to this team, then I think its time for Mets brass to pack it in.
