After watching the DVR of yesterday’s game it is really painful to watch Jason Bay come up with runners on with 2 outs and not get a key hit to hurt the Reds. This happened at least 2 times.
Well with Wright smacking the ball around I mentioned to Dave Lennon of Newsday in his weekly chat earlier, how about switching Bay and Wright in the lineup and he actually agreed.
After the Chat he did a quick blog post tinkering with the lineup. His new revamped lineup would be Reyes,Castillo,Pagan,Wright,Bay,Davis,Frenchy,Barajas and the pitcher. I was only looking to change the 2 hitters but I think at this point people want Reyes back at the top of the lineup. I am not ready for that and here is why.
If you place Wright batting 4th and Reyes third, Reyes is more likely to see decent pitches since they would rather have Wright leading off the inning and take there chances with Reyes. Pagan before the afternoon affair was in a slump but he did get on 3 times with hits yesterday and we need a guy who can get on to lead off. I just don’t think Reyes is there yet.
The change in the lineup should be Wright batting cleanup and move Bay to 5th This way he will be the one up at bat with 2 outs with a chance to do some damage. I know managers are slow to make changes since there are always overly concerned about there players confidence. Well you know take advantage of the fact that Bay I am sure can handle batting 5th.
In a quote yesterday from Bay himself he basically said he was pressing more when he had the opportunity with 2 outs and he is still missing the fastball. Let him just worry about getting himself corrected and let Wright be the guy for now. This way Wright can hit a couple of 3 run shots instead of solo homers. Once Wright starts striking out with runners on Bay might be raking and then Manager Jerry can switch back.
