Fearless Ike Foils Friars

What a game!

Mike 'Big Pelf' Pelfrey pitched a wonderful game, going nine innings, only throwing 103 pitches.

Mets were down 1-0 from the first to the seventh inning when Jose Reyes tied the game with a HR in the seventh inning. At first the blast was ruled a double, but the umpires retired to the visiting clubhouse to review the play. When they returned, Reyes was credited with his second HR, and the Mets were awarded the tying run.

After Pelfrey's brilliant nine inning performance, B-Rod came in and showed why the Mets agreed to pay him his big contract; B-Rod, formerly know as K-Rod, showed the Padres he was on his game tonight, striking out two and allowing no one to reach first base in his only inning of work. Desse
ns (.1 IP) cruised through the Padre lineup in the 11th.

In the home half of the 11th, the Mets sent Fearless Ike to the plate, and the rookie delivered. On the third pitch of the AB, Davis crushed an Edward Mujica fastball into the Pepsi Pavilion for the Mets win.

Yet another great home victory for baseball's best home team, and another thrilling come-from-behind victory.

Jose Reyes went 2-4 with a double and a HR, and Jeff Francoeur continued his hit streak with a 1-4 performance.

Tomorrow's game will pit Matt Latos against Johan Santana. The Mets presently sit in third place a 1/2 game behind the Phillies who beat the Marlins 10-8.
