Yankees lose Steinbrenner to Heart Attack at 80

There was no one like him . Even if you weren’t a Yankees fan you had an opinion of him. He took the Yankees during there doldrums in the early 70’s and made them a contender.

New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner has died of a massive heart attack this morning.

There was nothing like the fueds of him and former Manager Billy Martin who was hired and fired muliple times


We wish his family all the best in this time of sadness.

This statement is from the family.” It is with profound sadness that the family of George M. Steinbrenner III announces his passing," a statement from his family said. "“He was an incredible and charitable man. First and foremost he was devoted to his entire family – his beloved wife, Joan; his sisters, Susan Norpell and Judy Kamm, his children, Hank, Jennifer, Jessica and Hal; and all of his grandchildren.”

“He was a visionary and a giant in the world of sports. He took a great but struggling franchise and turned it into a champion again.”

The Mets issued this statement per the Daily News


"The passing of George Steinbrenner marks the end of an era in New York City baseball history. George was a larger than life figure and a force in the industry. The rise and success of his teams on the field and in the business marketplace under his leadership are a testament to his skill, drive, and determination.

"All of us at the Mets send our deepest condolences to his wife Joan, his sons Hank and Hal, daughters Jennifer and Jessica, his grandchildren, and everyone at the Yankees organization."

GMS did what every fan wants an owner to do. Stop at nothing to improve his team and give his team the BEST chance of winning a title. say what you want re: george, but he tried hard and it was never boring when he was around. Baseball has lost a great visionary and leader.
