UPDATE: Beltran Scratched - RA Takes On JA, Pridie Pined, Paulino Catches,Turner Starts: Mets Lineup Vs. Astros - May 14, 2011

_____________________________________________________________

UPDATE: Carlos Beltran has been scratched from the lineup literally: he woke up with a scratched and swollen right eye. Fernando Martinez will get the start in RF. Thanks to Kevin B. for the update.

Jason Pridie will get an off day today in lieu of Scott Hairston. Don't agree with the move because Pridie is young (27) and is the best CF option the Mets have. Terry Collins, in his best Willie Randolph impersonation, likes to mix things up every now and again. Pridie has played as well as anyone could have expected, belting 3 HR's and 9 RBI while usually hitting in the 8 hole. He has played a very good CF, and in all honesty, other than speed, the Mets haven't missed Angel Pagan.

Ronny Paulino will also continue his role as RA Dickey's personal catcher. In 9 games this year, Paulino has played well behind the dish, and that has been magnified immensely because of Thole's poor defensive season thus far. Paulino is batting .435 and has plated two runs. His veteran presence has been helpful during Thole's difficult sophomore season.

Justin Turner will get another start at 2B with Murph filling in at 1B for the injured Fearless Ike.

The Mets have a 4:05 matinee against the Astros today.

The Mets starting lineup Vs. JA Happ and the 'Stros:

1. Reyes - SS

2. Turner - 2B

3. Wright - 3B

4.
Bay - LF
5. Paulino - C
6. Murphy - 1B
7.
Hairston - CF
8. Martinez - RF
9. Dicey - RSP

Pridie has been terrible on offense as of late and has dipped below .230. He needs a day off more than anyone and he's also overmatched as a lefty batter today. Sitting him is a no brainer!
